A great gathering in Muff
On Saturday 10th of May ten members of the North Coast Community Exchange met at Liz’s place in Gortcormacan, Donegal for a community team working day, social meet up, car boot sale and shared lunch.
We all gathered in Liz’s kitchen and she took us to the edge of her forest where a large tree had come down and was lying across the stream. Kitted out with bow saws, loppers and protective gloves, we all set to work in the beautiful May sunshine. William, Liz’s husband, came along with a digger and chainsaw and our enthusiastic team collected the tree trunks, cleared the ivy from the wood and sawed up what we could. William expertly used the chainsaw for the bigger pieces and between us all, we loaded up the bucket of the dumper truck, that Liz had very impressively drove to the field where we were working.

Within one hour and a half, the task was complete and a sense of satisfaction and achievement was enjoyed by everyone there. Refreshments were calling and we all made our way to back to the house where a delicious and varied shared lunch was enjoyed by everyone.
There was a car boot sale and lots of transactions took place, more than 500 waves were traded on that day. New comers were able to have a go at making a transaction and there was an opportunity to ask questions and to give feed back about the way the exchange was working for everyone.

It was agreed that the day was a great success and plans are in hand for more community team working days to take place over the summer.
Look out for the next online zoom meeting where we will discuss ins and outs of organising other community work days from our learning from this one.
Bi-monthly donations to community organisations
The exchange has been very active last month with a volume of transactions that reached 1,813 waves.
Bi-monthly, the admin account will donate all the levies for one month to a nominated community organisation (e.g. Reach, Swell) or a community based event organised by an individual.
All the levies from the 1st to 31st of May will be donated to Swell. We encourage you to register as many transactions as possible knowing that you are created waves for Swell.
