Join Us at Swell Festival 2025 – Your Community in Action!

Swell PortrushWe’re thrilled to announce our participation in the Swell Festival in Portrush this October (7 – 12 October)!  As a vibrant part of our community exchange network, we have wonderful opportunities for you to attend, participate, and volunteer – all while strengthening the connections that make our local economy thrive.

We have 3 main events which will be our in person meetings for October and a great way to introduce you to the community.

 The Vula Connection Documentary Screening

A special screening of “The Vula Connection” – the remarkable story of Tim Jenkin, who designed a secret communication system that helped smuggle messages to Nelson Mandela and bring apartheid to an end. Tim is also the founder of the Community Exchange System that is powering the North Coast Community Exchange!

️ The Big Lunch – Sunday 12th October, 12pm-2pm

A special buffet-style brunch sponsored by the North Coast Community Exchange. This Big Lunch is for all Swell contributors, participants and anybody interested in NCCE. It was a big success last year where lots of interactions between community projects took place. Let’s meet, eat and develop inter-community relations.

When: Sunday 12 October 12:00 – 2:00pm

How to Participate:

This is a BIG NCCE meeting ! Less presentations and lots of chat and sharing of food and ideas. Our workday experiences showed us that sharing food together is one of the best ways to build community. You wont want to miss this one.

 Creative Riot – Sunday 12th October, 2pm-4pm

PORTRUSH TOWN HALL TAKE-OVER! A celebration of local creativity for all ages (1 to 100!)

When: Sunday 12 October, 2:00-4:00pm

Where: Portrush Town Hall Main Hall

NCCE Presence:

  • Volunteer at our dedicated NCCE stand:

  • Trade using Waves -bring along one really good item for the NCCE stall. A few really nice items attract attention and are talking points as well as demonstrating how to trade.

  • Register new members bring friends who would like to join; we will create their account on the spot, as well as printing their QR code and deposit 5 into their account to get them started.

  • Share your NCCE story and experiences with festival visitors

Enjoy the Other Activities at other stands

  • Temporary tattoos, doodling, painting, and crafting with local artists

  • Learn about surfing for health and wellbeing

  • Discover the repair movement and sustainability

  • End with joyous group singing with Coastal Vocals!
